North Haven is a not-for-profit childcare and education centre that is a haven for learning through play, where we strive to provide care and education that meets the needs of our community.
We are guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles of partnership, protection and participation, Ngā Tikanga Matatika Ngā paerewa (code of professional responsibility and standards for the teaching profession), Te Whāriki (New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum), National Education Learning Priorities, whānau, tamariki and community voice, and our centre values of manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga and whanaungatanga.
We value whānau aspirations and tamariki voice and use this knowledge to guide kaiako to see tamariki as individuals with different interests, strengths and ways of being. We encourage tamariki to use their strengths to guide and support their own learning.
We believe close caring relationships with tamariki and strong partnerships with whānau are essential in supporting tamariki to develop their own unique strengths. We are intentional in the way we support children to develop social and emotional competence, and this is a key focus in our centre.
We believe that reciprocal and respectful relationships with tamariki, whānau and the wider community support tamariki to be confident and competent lifelong learners and communicators, and we value the importance of nurturing these relationships.
We value the importance of the holistic ways in which tamariki learn and will provide a broad curriculum where tamariki are supported and encouraged to be creative, curious, and connected. We believe that being active positively contributes to learning and development, and we strive to provide an environment that supports this belief.
We are committed to continually growing our knowledge and skills as kaiako and will implement new knowledge in intentional and meaningful ways that support best outcomes for children.
